A Little Perspective

What the Russia?

So I yet again been contemplating the deletion of my blog. I know, what a traitor I am to the creative writing genius. But at least I'm honest about it. However, when I got on today and randomly checked my pageviews, I noticed something odd. In the last month, my blog has been visited by more people from Russia than the United States. Now I'm sure you're asking yourself the same thing I did, "What on earth does Russia have to do with anything?" Well, I did some homework to provide you with some important facts.

RUSSIA
-  is the largest country in the world
-  has the largest active volcano...called something I can't spell or even begin to pronounce
-  contains Europe's largest city, Moscow, which is home to over 11 million people
-  possesses the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction
-  has had a record low temperature of -96.4F
-  spans over 9 time zones
-  has a population fond of pancakes
-  wins a lot of gold medals at the Olympics
-  sells millions of matryoshka dolls each year...you know the ones that stack inside eachother

So basically, the next time you think "What on earth does Russia have to do with anything?"...you'll have a good answer. Thanks to all my Russian blog surfers. You are welcome anytime :-)

Overrated

So I'm the first to admit that I have never been a big supporter of adult children living in their parents' house, but I must give up my prideful ways and renounce my former opinion. Living at home has some serious perks.

#1 My mom frequently makes meals and saves me food. Who doesn't like free food? Especially food you don't have to cook.

#2 Direct TV happens to be a way of life for my family, and while I don't particularly care for many things on television these days, it is nice to be able to sit down and watch a recorded episode of something I do like...whenever I want

#3 Sometimes I come home after having forgotten my laundry in the dryer only to find it nicely folded up in little piles for me to take to my room. Awesome.

#4 Since not having to pay rent, I have bought a new laptop, a wifi router, an all sports pass, and a good deal of new clothes

#5 Whenever I want to have a party, my parents tell me to have fun, clean up the mess, and make sure nobody breaks anything

#6 If I run out of anything essential like shampoo or orange juice, all I have to do is add it to the shopping list and it appears like magic within a few days

Seriously, why on earth did I ever move out in the first place? Oh yeah, because I wanted to be an mature independent adult. Psh....so overrated.

Reading Tea Leaves

I'm about to get a little metaphorical right now. If you can keep up then give yourself a pat on the back, and if not, just don't worry about it.

I am looking at the bottom of a drained tea cup, trying to make out anything from the herbs lying in a seemingly meaningless mess. If you poke it with a spoon from one side, it might be something. But then again, even without poking it, it kind of looks like something else. Finally my curiosity wins out and I poke it anyway. Then I start rotating it around slowly clockwise. Now counter-clockwise. Well if it's that something, then I should probably do this. But if it's this something, than I should probably just avoid doing that. Sit. Stare. Poke it again. Nothing. It makes absolutely no sense. I'm frustrated and feel a little like throwing the stupid tea cup against a wall. But not yet. I can't. I have to know what it means. I go over all the other possibilities I've already decided it can't be, and finally poke one more time. One long stare. And all of the sudden I realize, What the freak am I doing staring at a cup trying to read tea leaves?!?! Who the heck cares? Since when did tea leaves dictate my life?? Tea leaves won't tell me a darn thing.

A New Kind of Disorder

I decided I have a problem. Granted, that's no new revelation to most. Haha. But, I suppose I wasn't fully conscious of it myself until just recently. I don't know if there's an actual medical term for what I have...but I think it falls somewhere in between Obsessive Compulsive and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. So that would make it OCADHD. Catchy huh? It's true though. I suffer from symptoms of both and I think I should be examined. For example, I work at a bookstore. Well, sometimes I happen to pass by on my day off as I'm running errands (a negative indicator in and of itself). Can I simply walk past a table with a crooked book or a shelf with a gaping hole? Nope. Not for a second. On occasion I've even stooped so low as to straighten things in other stores that don't even employ me! Why??? To further illustrate my debilitated mental state, let's take a look at my weekly schedule. On any given day I spend approximately 10 hours between one of my two jobs or class, and then spend at least 1-2 hours on homework with another occasional 1 1/2 at the gym. Who DOES that? Well, apparently me. I've also realized lately that no matter what it is I'm doing, I throw myself into it completely and refuse to just 'slide by' with minimal effort. When did I become such an over-achiever? I used to enjoy doing a mediocre job every once in awhile. It makes you feel normal you know? Now I just feel...disabled. Haha. So any suggested remedies are welcome my friends, because I need to get off the crazy train here soon.
